The first sea turtle rescued from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was a young endangered Kemp’s ridley.
It was found about 35 miles from Venice, Louisiana, and was brought to Audubon Aquatic Center in New Orleans on May 18, 2010. The
turtle is recovering beautifully in Audubon’s care.

The Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program (LMMSTRP), is coordinated by Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in
New Orleans. The Aquarium is one of 10 museums and parks dedicated to nature operated by the not-for-profit Audubon Nature
Institute.

Sea turtles, dolphins and manatees are at risk from the Gulf oil spill.

There is no way to predict the number of animals that may need to be rescued or the full extent of the cost to do so. Your support
helps Audubon Nature Institute successfully meet
this immediate crisis and sustain LMMSTRP for the long term.
